Justin Trudeau drops into another pitfall of his own making

There was always going to be an odour coming off the WE arrangement — money just made it worse.

The Prime Minister and his government have shown a remarkable ability to find trouble in novel places — a Christmas vacation, the Shawcross doctrine and the possibility of a deferred prosecution agreement for SNC-Lavalin, the prime minister's choice of attire during a trip to India.

A vacation on the Aga Khan's island was not worth the trip

"I'm sorry I didn't, and in the future I will be clearing all my family vacations with the commissioner's office. I've always considered the Aga Khan a close family friend, which is why I didn't clear this family trip in the first place. But given the commissioner's report, I will be taking all precautions in the future."

Trudeau's image takes a hit

"Visual identity"

According to Abacus Data, the percentage of Canadians who believe Trudeau is doing a "poor" job of representing Canada internationally has jumped 16 points since last fall. That surely has something to do with the fact that the "visual identity" of Trudeau recently became tarnished by claims that he looked silly and self-indulgent while representing Canada in India.

SNC-Lavalin

Jody Wilson-Raybould resigned from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's cabinet Feb. 12 after reports surfaced in the Globe and Mail that she had been asked to intervene in the criminal case against SNC-Lavalin when she was justice minister.

What's alleged about the PM?

He admitted he had asked Wilson-Raybould to revisit her decision on the file, and whether she would be open to such a review. Trudeau claimed she was willing to do so, contradicting her testimony. He also said he wished Wilson-Raybould had told him that she felt contacts from his officials amounted to inappropriate pressure.

WE charity

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's mother Margaret and his brother Alexandre have both been paid tens of thousands of dollars to appear at WE Charity events.

"The money trail"

WE Charity said last week it was pulling out of administering CSSG, citing the ongoing controversy surrounding it and the government's decision to give the sole-source contract to WE. Prime Minister Trudeau said the federal government would take over the program.
